China to Allow Video Game Consoles Again After 13 Years
According to The Guardian, China’s State Council has given lenience to the sale of foreign gaming consoles in China. This uplift would essentially bring in such large companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to be sold in the gaming market.
You may be wondering why there was a ban like this in the first place. Well nearly 14 years ago the gaming ban was put in place on all of the arcade and home entertainment systems from foreign countries due to mental health concerns. Even with the removal of this ban, it’s still only temporary and could be revoked again without notice since the statement reads something along the lines of “explore the experience of reform and opening”.
If you couldn’t tell, the Chinese and Japanese market for video games is huge, and this will give a large opportunity for gaming manufacturers to do business in China’s $13 billion dollar gaming industry.
