Who is Respawn Entertainment? Behind The Creators of Titanfall for Xbox One

Many of us in the gaming world know of Respawn Entertainment because of their part in the development of the Call of Duty franchise at Infinity Ward, but we’re still unfamiliar with the crazy road they’ve taken to finally make it into the spotlight and eventually becoming what they are today, the developers of literally the most anticipated game of 2014 for next-generation consoles.

On March of 2010, Activision fired two senior employees of Infinity Ward for reasons listed as “breaches of contract and insubordination.” Jason West (Infinity Ward president, game director, co-CCO, and CTO) and Vince Zampella (CEO and co-founder of Infinity Ward) had been dismissed by Activision and replaced by CTO Steven Pearce and head of production Steve Ackrich. This is when Respawn Entertainment was born on April 12, 2010, a new independent gaming studio. Along with them they took 38 out of the 46 Infinity Ward employees who resigned from the studio following the firings of both Zampella and West.

The following year, Respawn Entertainment had begun it’s pre-production process for what would later become what we know of today as Titanfall. Titanfall was planned to be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but as the game progressed through development, they decided to complete it shortly after the release of the Xbox One and develop it into a next-generation title with insane interactive gameplay.
